21-year-old Bluey Robinson is the boy next door. Born in 1988, he grew up on The Jackson 5, Bob Marley, Phil Collins, UB40 and The Drifters. These foundations set his musical taste and later, influenced his style today.
Born of Swedish and Trinidadian descent, Bluey moved to South London from Sweden the year he was born. Keen to be heard and seen, Bluey started his career in entertainment in 1999, and in 2002 landed the role of ‘Simba’ in West End musical The Lion King. T4 then featured Bluey as part of their Orange Rock Corp coverage in 2008. Starting in late November 2008, Bluey started to captivate an audience through a guerrilla online campaign which saw him take his music and unique performance style to the London, Paris and New York train networks – where he’d sing to commuters, jam with buskers capturing hearts and minds! The resulting home edited video footage is must see content and the campaign has culminated in his Channel ‘Bluey Robinson TV’ attracting over 500,000 views and sparking a great reaction. Over the summer of ‘09 Bluey took his songs on the road and played sold out shows to a welcoming audience at Notting Hill’s ‘Yoyo’s’ and the Hoxton Bar And Grill’s ‘Gold Dust’.
“I Know”, Bluey’s first release, arrived in late September off the back of a strong radio plot, which saw extensive airplay across national radio with Ronnie Herel in particular championing the rising star.
Since then, Bluey gone from strength to strength, performing a storming set at the ‘1Xtra after Party’ following Dizzie Rascal’s performance at the BBC Electric Proms on Wed 21st Oct in Camden’s Roundhouse.
A chance meeting with Michael Jackson and Amy Winehouse writer Gil Cang saw the two collaborate on ‘Gotta Be A Way’, a soul stomp of the highest order. A track which will be performed when Bluey hits the O2 Wireless festival later this year on a bill which includes Jay-Z and Pink.
In late November ‘09, almost a year to the day of uploading his first youtube video, Bluey put pen to paper to a well deserved record deal with entertainment giant Sony Music. There’s a lot more to come from this rising star…stay tuned!
