For The First Time

Dubliners Danny O’Donoghue, Mark Sheehan and Glen Power – otherwise known as The Script – tee up the follow up to 2008’s 1.8 million selling self-titled global smash debut with a stirring, thought-provoking single ‘For The First Time’.
The song, written by Danny and Mark and released on RCA, was prompted by the band returning to Dublin on the back of their monumental success, only to be devastated that their friends’ fortunes had turned far bleaker due to Ireland’s economic crisis.
“People are getting stripped of everything,” says Danny, “stripped of their jobs and their homes and their furniture, so its going to back to an old thing of drinking cheap bottles of wine, having dinner on the floor, and it’s like they are meeting each other for the first time. Its getting back to reality, you’re standing naked in front of this person. That notion really resonated with us. It set the tone for what we want to talk about, emotionally.”
The track was the inspirational key to The Script’s second album ‘Science & Faith’ - an addictive blend of hip hop rhythms, flowing melodies, sparkling hooks and poignant, story-spinning lyrics, with Danny’s mellifluous soulful vocals riding high over huge, anthemic choruses. Finding weighty, emotion-packed mini-epics came thick and fast, ‘Science And Faith’ is far from a difficult second album.
Featuring the hit singles ‘We Cry’, ‘Breakeven’ and ‘The Man Who Can’t Be Moved’, 2008’s ‘The Script’, went straight to Number One in the UK and Ireland and led to the trio being personally asked by Paul McCartney to support him at a number of US stadium shows.
The Script is Danny O’Donoghue (vocals/keys), Mark Sheehan (guitar) and Glen Power (drums). They announce UK dates shortly.
